Crown and Bridges
When a tooth has a very large filling or has a crack or a fracture on it, dentist will recommend to do a crown on your tooth. If crown is not done in timely manner , tooth can fracture causing pain and needing emergency care. Greater risk is that a fracture line may go below the margin of the gum which makes saving tooth more difficult or near impossible.
A crown is a tooth shaped helmet or a thimble that is placed over your tooth to protect your tooth from fracturing and to maintain the strength of the tooth from biting forces. It can also sometimes help to seal your tooth better to avoid any new cavities on the tooth.
Literature suggest that when the filling on the tooth is larger than 60% of the tooth ,it has more potential to crack or fracture. Depending on the location and bite ,our dentist will either chose gold crown or tooth coloured crown.
A bridge is a false tooth held in place by being attached to teeth next door. It allows the dentist to replace lost teeth without the use of a denture or dental implant. If you need replacement of your missing tooth, our dentist can do a thorough assessment of your teeth and gums to give you most suitable option. When teeth next to the missing tooth are already heavily restored, it will be a good idea to do a bridge as it can help protect adjacent teeth as well.
